Network Rail – Midland Mainline Electrification – Equib

Our Equib team is providing expert risk and value capability to help the Network Rail Midlands Infrastructure Projects team deliver their largest construction project in recent years.

Project:

The Midland Main Line Electrification project will provide overhead line equipment for the use of electric passenger and freight trains to operate between St Pancras and Sheffield via Derby, including Trent Junction to Nottingham and Kettering to Corby.

This project is part of Network Rail’s strategic business plan to work alongside a number of schemes and to significantly increase the proportion of the UK rail network that is electrified. The project is valued at £1.3 Billion and working to a programme that will deliver infrastructure to be operational, allowing electric trains to run to Corby by December 2017, Nottingham and Derby by December 2019 and Sheffield by December 2020.

Services:

Equib has been providing risk and value management leadership to the project for the last two years. In that time, we have implemented risk and value management processes and enabled ongoing risk management across this major project. Our support to the project GRIP 3 gateway and ECAM processes, defined the risk contingency budget estimate which is a major part of the successfully approved budget for delivery.

We have also provided:

  • Commercial direction to the estimation of risk and opportunity within the target cost
  • Schedule risk analysis for construction activity undertaken during disruptive possessions
  • Value management support
