Equib has supplied risk management consultancy to Network Rail in the support of DfT (Department for Transport) funding submissions and ongoing risk management to support compliance with NR governance.

Project:

The electrification of the Great Western Railway is one of the biggest single investments in electrification in over 40 years. Currently running from Maidenhead to Cardiff, with a potential extension to Swansea, the project is part of the larger CP5 electrification plan which sees a 10% increase in the amount of UK railway with the ability to run trains using electric traction.

Amey is the OMD (Operate, Maintain and Delivery) contractor for the recently developed HOPS (High Output Plant System) for the installation of the OLE (Overhead Line Equipment) which is one of the primary mechanisms for the OLE delivery. Amey are also delivering OLE conventionally in the east of the route in the Thames Valley Area. These projects are just part of a suite of projects to enable the electrification of the main line, which will cost in the region of £2.8billion.

The management of risk on the electrification of the Great Western Railway has required a collaborative approach to the integration and management of client and contractor risk processes.
